ABOUT LMAT
From the beginning in 2009 we have been about precision. In fact, when Tomasz Garstka set-up LMAT he was long into his quest to get perfect precision from every composite moulding he worked on. This is a relentless pursuit for perfection that still underpins our daily activities. The volume of knowledge and experience within LMAT enabled us to get a much deeper understanding of the processes taking place in the moulding of composites and the microscopic effects between the fibres and the matrix amalgamating to produce some tangible effects on the geometry of the moulded components. The technology drive us rather than the desire to create a business empire or placate shareholders.
Most of the early work in the field of composites process simulation and the prediction of cure distortion was centred on the aerospace industry where the assembly of large mouldings required precision to maintain aero surfaces, control bond line thickness and avoid jigging forces that develop stresses in the parts that will be intolerable.
All composites mouldings distort in the cure process from the mould geometry. Now the composite moulding industry has attempted to handle these issues in the background away from the end client for many decades. It is now as the composites move further towards higher production that the precision of the components needs to be designed in to the process and thoroughly understood and not corrected as part of trial and error programme to do just enough to satisfy a clients needs.
Composites give many opportunities for weight saving, strength and even cost saving on occasion; we know first hand from our early forays with composites that processing can be a challenge, particularly for dimensional accuracy and the ability to fit the composites into a qualified workflow with assembly.
Whether we are providing software, material characterisation or a tailored consultancy project we measure success by the satisfaction of the client when the get the first part out of the mould. We are fortunate to be asked back to see the results and share their pleasure. We see collaboration with our clients as the opportunity to share our knowledge and give the client the opportunity to take their products to further heights.
If you think we can assist you to understand and develop your process please contact us. We will happily share our advice and identify a route forward. All enquiries will be treated in the strictest confidence.
